download redDownload Managers have become and important part of our Internet usage. With amazing Internet speeds a download manager comes in really handy. Although I must confess that Linux, still lacks a good GUI based Download Manager. D4X also called as Downloader for X is a decent alternative. However,  I can say that it’s no where in comparison to IDM (Internet Download Manager) on Windows. Let us see how to install D4X on Ubuntu (Jaunty).

1. Open your synaptic package manager by going to System > Administration > Synaptic Package Manager

synapticpackagemanager

2. In the quick search box type d4x.

d4xsynaptic

3. Select the first package and click apply. You’ll see the following window and click Apply.

d4xsynapticinstall

Starting and Running D4X

In order to run D4X hit ALT+F2 and type d4x

d4xrun

Following is how the interface of D4X looks.

It’s pretty intuitive to use. Enjoy fast downloads!
