Install Opera Unite (10) on Ubuntu (Jaunty): How-to
Opera has sustained the test of time as a browser and is going to continue to gain market share. If there was a really good complete browser, email client and RSS feed reader, then Opera leads the chart. What makes a good software is it being independent of Operating System and this applies to Opera. It’s not only available for Windows but Linux too. And if you are as crazy about using Internet I am sure you’ll be running out of browsers for your browsing needs. Having another good browser doesn’t really hurt and definitely not Opera. With Opera unite the web is not going to remain the way it has. Opera unite is going to take web and browsing to cloud and hence we’ll be seeing how to install opera unite on Ubuntu. We’ll also check some really cool features that Opera Unite offers! Let’s get started:
I’ll be installing i386 version for my regular 32 bit laptop.
1. Download the deb file of opera unite i386 version here. The file is close to 13 MB so go grab a cup of coffee while it downloads

2. Double click the downloaded file (opera-static_10.00.4440.gcc4.qt3_i386.deb) to install Opera Unite on Ubuntu (jaunty jackalope)
Starting Opera Unite
You can start Opera Unite by going to Applications > Internet > Opera

Opera Unite Features
Opera Unite is a unique technology that turns any computer or device running Opera into a Web server.

- Photo Sharing
- The Lounge
- Fridge
These are the default features of Opera Unite which come with the installation. However, there’ll be more and more Unite features to look forward to in future. Details of all the Unite services can be found here.
Enabling the Unite Server
The unite server doesn’t come enabled and you’ll have to enable it to use it. To do so go to Tools > Opera Unite Server > Enable Opera Unite. Follow the on screen instruction to set up Opera Unite.
