Upgrading to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx

I think I have waited enough and now it’s time to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 code named Lucid Lynx. If you have just too much of stuff to worry about on previous versions of Ubuntu, I’d suggest to wait for the final release in April. That’s right the current release is alpha (not even Beta) so please upgrade at your own risk.

Following is what I did to upgrade from Ubuntu 9.10 Karmic Koala to Ubuntu 10.04 Alpha Lucid Lynx.

1. Bring up run prompt by hitting ALT+F2 and type the following command to bring up the update manager.

update-manager -d

You’ll now see that update manager shows “New Ubuntu release ’10.04′ is available”.

2. Hit the upgrade button.

3. Follow the onscreen instructions to upgrade to Ubuntu 10.04 Lucid Lynx.

Enjoy the new Ubuntu upgrade. There’s been a lot of buzz about the suggested changes in the upcoming Ubuntu 10.04. Cant wait to see the release.

Wow, I knew it! I knew there was going to be a GUI version of such guide. I know how to use the terminal but I don't use it, albeit it is very powerful, because the OS does provide the necessary GUI. The rest of the guides I found were purely done in the terminal–no wonder a lot of people think Linux is difficult to use. I really think the pattern for making Linux tutorials should change: if there's a way to do it in GUI, please show it in GUI. Oh, and thanks for the guide.

Rick – Upgrade worked well The upgrade took a few hours. but it went routinely for a 4 year old Toshiba. Nothing major seems broken, and I only lost Dropbox and Remastersys. Dropbox is a quick reinstall, but Remastersys won't work until the Lucid version is released. I'll be interested to see if this upgrade goes as well w/ my Acer laptop, since it has the Linux wifi unfriendly Broadcom chipset.

I have upgraded Ubuntu 09.04 to 10 and at the time of installation or after installation , I didn’t have any problems. Even I didn’t loose anything. Thanks fro the information.
