hi, this is great (at least for the plymouth thing)! but i have one concern, after following your instruction everything seem to be working good, until i found out my conky is missing. it just vanished! i’m using Ubuntu 10.04LTS.

Wow it’s works on my lucid, but the image stretched out ( i have 1366×768 resolution) how can i fix it? thx before

It worked for me, i have a MBP 5.5 (13″) with 2.6.32-25-generic kernel and x86_64 bits system.
Applied with some minimal changes. Instead of 1280×1024, i have used 1280×800 which is my screen resolution.
