Install Real Player 11 in Fedora 13

By on Sep 29, 2010 in Featured, Fedora, How-to, Linux | 24 comments

Real Player 11 is quite an advance music player which has been around for quite sometime. The good part is it’s also available for Linux. Installing it on Fedora 13 is no rocket science and works as flawlessly as on windows.

All you have to do is download the rpm package (Download link at the end of the post), double click it and install.

After it’s install you can start it by typing the following commands at Terminal:

[sourcecode language='bash']cd /opt/real/RealPlayer/
./realplay
[/sourcecode]

Following are some of the screenshots of the player in action.

Have fun!

Really, is it a joke? Not only this is not realy needed, the idea that anyone thinks Real Player is needed on Linux is so completely ridiculous I don’t know what to say.

I just reinstalled Fedora 13 as I had experienced a problem with RealPlayer. When I downloaded the rpm for RealPlayer11GOLD it offered 2 install methods: package manager or rpm command. (.bin option seems no longer available), It recommended I use the package manager so I choose that option. However, even though Realplayer was installed in /opt /real, I couldn’t find the RealPlayer plugin in Firefox. Of course it was then impossible to uninstall it using yum, add/remove software or using the rpm -e command, as yum couldn’t remove it and rpm -e reported it as not being installed.
