Sometime back we covered <a href="http://linuxhub.net/2009/09/install-vlc-on-ubuntu-via-ppa/" target="_blank">how to install VLC player on Ubuntu using PPA</a>. Today, we are going to see how to install it on OpenSuse and make it the default player to play mp3 and other media files.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In order to install VLC player on OpenSuse 11.2 we&#8217;ll have to add it&#8217;s repositories to the software repository of OpenSuse. To do so, go to <em>Computer &gt; YaST</em></p>

<p style="text-align: justify;">Click Add and add  the following :</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Respository Name: <strong>VLC</strong></p>

libsigc++2</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">To install these packages, start a terminal window and copy paste the following command.</p>

<div class="wp_syntax"><div class="code"><pre class="bash" style="font-family:monospace;"><span style="color: #c20cb9; font-weight: bold;">su</span> <span style="color: #660033;">-c</span> <span style="color: #ff0000;">'zypper install libqt4 libqt4-x11 libqt4-dbus-1 libsigc++2'</span></pre></div></div>

<p style="text-align: justify;">If you already have these packages, Suse will inform you that you already have the packages and you don&#8217;t need nothing to install.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Once you are done installing the above dependencies, you just have to download the latest Skype rpm package from the official skype site (Download link at the end of the post).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Double click the downloaded RPM package and YaST should install it on your machine.</p>

To begin with after installing OpenSuse 11.2 (With Gnome Desktop), the first thing I needed was KSnapshot because it makes my job very easy to write heavy screenshot based articles here on Linux Hub. So let&#8217;s see how to install KSnapshot on OpenSuse 11.2.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Go to Computer &gt; Install Software</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ksnapshot1.png" rel="lightbox[653]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-654" title="Ksnapshot1" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ksnapshot1.png" alt="" width="550" height="389" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Make sure the Available tab is selected and in the search box type ksnapshot.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot2.png" rel="lightbox[653]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-655" title="ksnapshot2" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot2.png" alt="" width="550" height="338" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Select the package and click Install.Click apply to start installation.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot3.png" rel="lightbox[653]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-656" title="ksnapshot3" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot3.png" alt="" width="550" height="336" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Click I Agree to proceed with the installation.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot4.png" rel="lightbox[653]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-657" title="ksnapshot4" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/ksnapshot4.png" alt="" width="550" height="336" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Wait for the installation to finish. To start KSnapshot bring up the run command by hitting ALT + F2 and type ksnapshot in it.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><a href="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ksnapshot5.png" rel="lightbox[653]"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-658" title="Ksnapshot5" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2010/03/Ksnapshot5.png" alt="" width="446" height="214" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">That&#8217;s it now you can start using KSnapshot in OpenSuse 11.2 on your Gnome desktop.</p>
