sudo apt-get install sun-java6-jre sun-java6-fonts sun-java6-plugin gcc-avr avr-libc

More than is absolutely required, but it got past the &#039;Running the installer wizard....&#039; and then exit problem.  Turning on the Debug flag showed that installation was dying on

java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: Could not initialize class java.awt.Toolkit
