With amazing Internet speeds a download manager comes in really handy. Although I must confess that Linux, still lacks a good GUI based Download Manager. D4X also called as <strong>Downloader for X</strong> is a decent alternative. However,  I can say that it&#8217;s no where in comparison to IDM (Internet Download Manager) on Windows. Let us see how to install D4X on Ubuntu (Jaunty).</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">1. Open your synaptic package manager by going to <span style="color: #888888;">System &gt; Administration &gt; Synaptic Package Manager</span></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-98" title="synapticpackagemanager" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/synapticpackagemanager.png" alt="synapticpackagemanager" width="500" height="469" /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">2. In the quick search box type <span style="color: #888888;">d4x</span>.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-99" title="d4xsynaptic" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/d4xsynaptic.png" alt="d4xsynaptic" width="500" height="320" /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">3. Select the first package and click apply. You&#8217;ll see the following window and click Apply.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-100" title="d4xsynapticinstall" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/d4xsynapticinstall.png" alt="d4xsynapticinstall" width="485" height="462" /></p>
<h3 style="text-align: justify;">Starting and Running D4X</h3>
<p style="text-align: justify;">In order to run D4X hit ALT+F2 and type d4x</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-101" title="d4xrun" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/d4xrun.png" alt="d4xrun" width="452" height="218" /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">Following is how the interface of D4X looks.</p>
<p style="text-align: justify;"><img class="alignnone size-full wp-image-102" title="d4xmain" src="http://linuxhub.net/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/d4xmain.png" alt="d4xmain" width="540" height="459" /></p>
<p style="text-align: justify;">It&#8217;s pretty intuitive to use. Enjoy fast downloads!</p>
