This is almost like a time waster but you can flaunt of your Linux better by having a matrix terminal. If I were to explain what terminal is, I’d say it’s a non-gui version of accessing and using your Ubuntu. Amazingly powerful, yet simple terminal is heart of any Linux distribution.

You can access terminal by going to Applications > Accessories > Terminal

You can also bring up your terminal window by hitting ALT+F2 (Run Prompt) and typing “gnome-terminal“.

The default terminal window looks very boring. It looks something like this.

Let’s see how to make the terminal look much smarter and better using a few tweaks.

Make the terminal transparent

On the terminal window click Edit > Profile Preferences. Select the background tab and choose transparent background.

This should make the terminal window transparent and your new terminal window should look like this:

Matrix-i-fy your terminal

All that is left now is to get the matrix style font system for your terminal window. Bring up the profile preferences window again and this time click Colors tab. Uncheck the box that reads Use colors from system theme. Click the Built-in schemes drop down to choose Green on Black.

The final result should look like the one below:

Flaunt off your new terminal to your friends!
